Energy Audit Plan: Hotel Benidorm Centre
During the spring and summer of 2009, creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts carried out an energy audit plan of several of the Bali Hotel Group facilities, specifically of the Hotel Benidorm Centre.
Several areas for energy use improvement were detected throughout the energy audit, such as lighting, equipment and air conditioning. We also carried out different recommendations contracting electricity suppliers.
The measures we proposed resulted in a saving percentage of 25% of the total energy consumption of the whole facility, thereby saving more than 30.000 € per year. The required investment to carry out these necessary improvements was over 73.000 €. However, given the savings per year, it would take only one and a half years to see a return on investment. Furthermore, adopting these sustainability measures entailed a double benefit; apart from the economic gain, the hotel also reduced its CO2 emissions by 60% (more than 100.000 Kg of CO2 per year).
Energy Management System Implementation: HOLMEN PAPER MADRID Company Plant
In 2009, creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts implemented the Energy Management System UNE 216301 on the Swedish company HOLMEN PAPER MADRID. The implementation procedure was concluded by the beginning of summer in 2009. This was an implementation of particular relevance, for it meant that the Swedish Company achieved for its’ Fuenlabrada plant the recognition already achieved by those of the same company in Sweden.
This standard, of which creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts was a developer, is the Spanish Standard of the recently approved EN 16001, moreover it will substitute the Spanish one. Currently, creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts continues to work in the development of new standards related to energy saving, renewable energy and climate change, at the heart of AENOR’s 216 Standard Technical Committee.
GREENPYME Colombia Programme
In autumn 2009, creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts participated in the energy efficiency GREENPYME Programme, a creation of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) in Colombia. The aim of this initiative was to promote energy efficiency in the SME’s (initials in Spanish being PYME) by reducing energy consumption, maintaining activity and quality of life levels, protecting the environment, ensuring supply and encouraging a sustainable attitude regarding energy use.
Within the programme, creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts participated in a series of energy saving and renewable energy workshops targeted to businessmen in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali. Our participation was hosted by entities such as BBVA Colombia and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) apart from counting with the support of Colombia’s’ Ministry of Mine and Energy.
The programme and workshops presentation touched different aspects related to energy efficiency and business competitiveness, such as the contribution of new technologies, the financing of energy efficiency projects, or the analysis of real experiences.
Council Energy Audit: Aranjuez Council
Towards the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009, creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts carried out a public lighting council saving plan for the Aranjuez council. creara energy efficiency & energy saving experts was in charge of the totality of this project evaluating and diagnosing their control panels and lighting points. Furthermore, we prepared a detailed inventory of the council lighting points and elaborated a virtual data base with the corresponding electronic map of all the lighting points and circuits apart from evaluating the security and electrical characteristics of each control point by using technical measurements.
An important task in projects of this kind is the control of luminous pollution as well as detecting those streets with too many lights, as those are areas where a lot can be saved by complying with the current standard.
As a result of our endeavour the council saved more than 30% of the costs related to these council facilities. The main measures were those directed at changing the lamp and light technology in use by the council. Other measures also took into account the >control panel to turn the facilities on and off, as well as the astronomical time clock timer and photovoltaic cells. Another measure that allowed for major saving was the implementation of dimable balasts.
